Riverdale Kids Sport Course Description

Highly qualified instructors offer children strong leadership and the opportunity to be inspired by greatness both in the class and on the field. Coaches are from the University of Toronto Soccer program and/or have their Bachelor of Physical Health and Education.

Soccer, Ball Hockey, Basketball and Baseball
Riverdale Kids Sport introduces children to a variety of different sports and games.  Our program develops fundamental sports skills in a structured, safe environment.

Focus on Skill Development
We will go through the basic movement and skills needed to play each sport and introduce the kids to the basic flow of games.

Fundamental skills (ABC's - Agility, Balance & Coordination): running, jumping, kicking, throwing, catching, striking

Soccer-specific skills: dribbling, shooting, passing and receiving

Hockey-specific skills: stick handling, shooting, passing and receiving

Basketball-specific skills: dribbling, shooting, passing and receiving

Baseball-specific skills: throw and catch, batting, bend and scoop

Flexibility and movement are key aspects of all future physical activity and sport endeavours.
Riverdale Kids Sport introduces children to stretching and yoga, body position, spatial awareness and movement.

Gets Kids Active
Riverdale Kids Sport focuses on continuous movement getting kids physically active.

Stimulates the Desire to Participate in Sport and Fitness
Riverdale Kids Sport emphasizes the fun of sport and physical activity. 

Strong Start: Start sooner, rather than later
Riverdale Kids Sport programming develops movement skills necessary for lifelong physical activity participation.

Teaches Fair Play and Builds Confidence:
We encourage girls and boys to try a variety of sports and games in a noncompetitive environment that introduces team work and fair play.

About our head programmer:
Bonnie Shepherd, is the GM & Assistant Coach of the Varsity Blues, Women’s Soccer Team, University of Toronto.
Bonnie manages all programming, staffing and training for Riverdale Kids Sport and Soccer programs.  Bonnie holds a Masters of Education from the University of Toronto, as well as co-current degrees in Bachelor of Physical Health and Education and Bachelor of Arts from Queen’s University. She also holds her senior coaching certification (NCCP level 3).
